DIY vintage spool hooks

Remember these adorable hooks from my post about my sewing corner? Well, instead of spending $24 at Pottery Barn, I made them myself.

These took about 5 minutes to make & cost $2.50. Although there are some supplies that I already had in my arsenal, like a rubber stamp alphabet & drywall screws for hanging. But honestly, I think if you're fairly good with doodles, you could use a fine point pen to illustrate these wood pieces by hand.

Here's what you'll need:

Wooden spools in various sizes (available in the woodworking section of most craft stores. I found these at Michael's)

Rubber stamp alphabet & other decorative stamps

Black ink pad for stamping

Drywall mounting screws

Wire cutters 

Here's what to do:

-Stamp the spools with whatever. Be creative!

-Select a drywall anchor screw set that is thin enough to fit through the center of the spool

-Trim the plastic anchor with the wire cutters so that it's shorter than the metal screw

-Insert the screw & anchor through the center of the spool

-Drill into the wall, allowing most of the anchor to remain in the spool center*

*In this case, the anchor is acting more like an anchor for the spool instead of the wall, so please note that these hooks are only strong enough to support "light weight" objects; "light" as in the objects featured in the product picture from Pottery Barn.
