A Darling Nursery

Inspiration Board Sources:
Ikea: Curtains, rocking chair, malm dresser (modified with contact paper applied), shelf unit
Home Goods: Pink alphabet print, rug, tree stump table, dog rocker, hamper
Target: Animal figurines, lamp, chevron bins, polka dot sheets

I've probably spent more time contemplating the nursery than any other space in our home. I think it's because there's so much more to consider - Will my baby find it stimulating and warm? Are the items safe and kid-friendly (washable, durable)? Ultimately our baby girl won't remember this space, so I think nurseries are mostly for adults. I've also noticed that parents often redecorate their nurseries after the child is toddler age. I don't really see the point in that, so I'm starting with a space that will grow with her. I could easily see her enjoying this space at 5 years old (sans crib of course).

My original plan was to keep the space gender neutral. Gray walls with highlights of bright yellow. I found it incredibly difficult to find pieces that worked. The yellows were either too pale or too mustard. After we discovered that we were having a girl I found myself drifting to more pink things.

Contrast and simple patterns are really good for developing a baby's eyesight so black and white works perfectly. I'm thinking of painting the walls a light gray for a neutral pallet, incorporating pops of pink, gold and possibly Tiffany blue. Ultimately the space will be a combination of my favorite things: pattern mixing, black and white, typography, the forest and glitter.

I think you're on the right track with nursery decorating. As an infant it's definitely decorated (to an extent) for the adults and you need to make sure you find the space calming for yourself as much for the baby. I agree- I wouldn't want to decorate so carefully and then change it all when the child reaches toddler age.

PS: Is it bad that I want a lot of your picks for my own room??
