While most people were snacking on chicken wings and watching Superbowl this past weekend I was busy redecorating the dining room. The effort started with a Saturday trip to Ikea for the Besta. The mister did all the heavy lifting this time. I'm finding that pregnancy is starting to limit me a bit.
I deviated slightly from my original Besta plan and went with just a large 50" Tofta finish door instead of the drawer and two smaller doors. Ultimately I wanted a very clean, seamless look and the drawer would have left a small gap. The dishes and glassware fit rather nicely. I'm thinking I may add another shelf above the plates for place mats.
After the cabinet was assembled the room felt a bit off balanced, with the green gallery wall and giant hutch pulling all the visual focus into the back corner of the room, leaving me with a wide gap on the right on a big white wall. I tried adding a large framed print to that area but it felt too bulky. Then I remembered the Ikea HONEFOSS mirror set that I had purchased a while back but was too chicken to hang. It comes with these adhesive strips that aren't re-positionable so I wanted to be sure about its final location.
I think it worked out perfectly and I like how it adds gold tones to the room, playing off the gold bar ware. The mister even liked it.
And while I was at it, I changed up some of the gallery wall decor. There was a tiny bit of open space on the wall after the removal of the open ladder shelf, so of course I had to fill it with something. I'm like my dad that way. Haha. Keeping with the bar theme, I added this wine cask that my mom gifted me for Christmas. Below is a small version of the Many Varieties of Beer print from Pop Chart Lab. It was actually in the back of an old Crate and Barrel catalog. Yay for recycled free wall art.
